I've got a job!

I start my new job tomorrow. I'm a little nervous and I wish there was a way I could have taken more time off but as a single mom I'm the only one who pays the bills. I hope it goes well. I've never even set foot in the place so I have no idea what to expect. They offered me the job over the phone and created a position for me. Kayla picked out my outfit to wear tomorrow--she's excited for me. So off I go on another new adventure (there's been way too many of these lately).

By the way, does anybody have any suggestions of what to do with a 13-year-old girl during the summer? She's too old for day camps and too young to stay by herself. I have several friends who are helping me out this week but it seems like there should be an easier solution for kids this age.

congrat, good luck with the job...

13...well, last year, let me think, robyn is artistic so we did alot of scrap booking, i also let her give me a few make overs (big mistake, especially when i forgot i looked like a hooker, complete with gold eyeshadow and went to the store).

and robyn discovered a love of gardening, so i went and got her some flowers and plants and let her get on with it, she did great!

of course, there is always shopping!!LOL all 13 year olds love that!

Congrats on your job..i wish you loads of luck!

A 13 year old, huh? Well, I am a childcare provider, and I have a 13 year old in the same situation. We enroll her as sort-of an...assistant. She helps out with playground activities, arts & crafts, and serving meals & snacks. I give her a little cash for her help, her parents pay me a little for meals...and I give it to her. It works for us. Maybe you know of someone she can help.Gives a little spending money and instill's work ethic.

YAY!! Congratulations on the job. Sweet relief! :)

No advice on what to do with Kayla, though, unfortunately. I hope you get some great advice!!

How about finding a high school "friend" to hang out with? Not really a baby sitter, just a responsible person who she can hang out with and have fun this summer. Kind of the big sister type? Maybe even have her do part of the day and let her do a couple of hours on her own if she wants.
